Where can I find helicopter statistics?
Helicopter Statistics from BTS
Answer
You may find the following sources useful:
-
General Aviation and Part 135 Activity Surveys provided by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for general helicopter data, such as the number of aircraft and hours flown by aircraft.
-
The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) collects traffic data for certificated air carriers only
-
Includes little data on helicopters (only when operated by certificated air carriers)
-
Example: For 2008 our database show only 6,876 of 11,551,672 departures (domestic and international) were flown by helicopters
-
View this data yourself by accessing the T-100 Segment (All Carriers) database
-
Click "Aviation" on the left
-
Click "Air Carrier Statistics (Form 41 Traffic)- U.S. Carriers"
-
Click "Analysis" next to "Aircraft Group" (Helicopters are group 3)
-
set "Filter variables" to "DepPerformed (or passengers)"
-
Set "Filter Year" to the desired year and recalculate
-
