Q. Scam 2017

Letter asking for PIN and information

Answer

We've been getting an awful lot of emails like yours lately. I'm pretty sure someone is trying to pull a scam.  If you have any doubts about whether or not your account with the FMCSA is not up-to-date, you can always go to: https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/ then enter your information where it reads:

SEARCH USDOT # OR COMPANY NAME

This will allow to see at anytime exactly what you are enrolled for and what information the USDOT has on file.  As long as the information is correct, there is nothing to be done.  You can disregard this "letter in the mail".

Of course, if you do find errors, it is easy enough to fix - you just have to get in touch with the FMCSA. Here are the various ways to contact the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration:

Phone: 800-832-5660

Business Hours:
8:00am-8:00pm ET, M-F

So why did you - and plenty of other trucking companies - receive this "letter in the mail" ?  We just saw how easy it is for anyone who sees the USDOT number on the side of your truck to go to this same web site, and learn a lot about your company free-of-charge.  Unfortunately. there will always be people who try to use this information to make a quick buck.
