What are the airline traffic statistics reporting requirements?

Answer

Certificated US air carriers report monthly air carrier traffic statistics to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). Foreign air carriers with at least one point of service in the US must also file. Please see also:

  • Reporting regulations: Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Parts 217, 241, 291 and 298

  • 67 FR 49217: final rule that revised the reporting of air carrier traffic and capacity data by nonstop segment and on-flight market, July 30, 2002, published by the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS)

  • Accounting and Reporting Directives provided by BTS to clarify the reporting requirements
