Q. Motorcycle Legislation

Answer

On February 14, 2008, former Secretary Peters sent legislation to Congress to help states target motorcycle helmet use. To view the bill sent to Congress, please see http://testimony.ost.dot.gov/final/default.htm

On September 29, 2008, Secretary Peters proposed new rules to improve motorcycle safety by making it easier for riders to identify and use effective helmets.  You can file a comment on the proposal by searching for Docket No. "NHTSA-2008-0157" at http://www.regulations.gov

Additional information on the motorcycle safety initiative is available on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) web site at http://www.nhtsa.gov/Safety/Motorcycles
